Today, I met a friend of high school who lives in Tokyo now. We talked about 9 hours!! Then I noticed about the importance of our choice.
I think my first big choice was when I decide to take exam for juniour high school. When I decide to take exam for juniour high, I was not serious. I decided because my friends said she would take exam for juniour high. If she didn't say so, I didn't take exam for juniour high. And, after I passed the exam, I did not want to that juniour high because many friends go to public school but only some friends go to juniour high school attached to a university. However, in the end, I decided to go to the juniour high attached to a university. I made a lot of friends and a lot of good memories at the juniour high school.
However because of my father's work, I had to move to Hiroshima. I could take exam for Hiroshima university's attached juniour high school because I went to Shimane university's attached juniour high school and I could pass the exam and I could go to Hiroshima university's attached high school. And there, I met sooooo many good friends and made soooo many good memories like studying in Australia for two weeks sports festival and so on!!!
If I couldn't pass the exam for Hiroshima university's attached juniour high school, maybe I couldn't go to Hiroshima university's attached high school and I couldn't know about ICU and couldn't meet YOU!!!
A friend who I met today was my high school friend and if I didn't go to that high school, I have never met her. So I think choice makes our future and that will be big part of our life!!

Meeting and Getting host family info
Today, I went to school because I have to attend the meeting of committee. Before the meeting starts, I went to International exchange center (Kokusai koryu center) to get my homestay information. My host family has a host mother and a 16 years old host sister. I'm really looking forward to meeting them!!
After getting the information sheet, I went to the meeting and after that, we have small meeting. I belong to the Hanami dori part so I had Hanami meeting. We decided a lot of thing, so it took soooo long time. We started the meeting at 1 p.m. but it finished almost 6 p.m.. I got tired but I'm very enjoying to work for putting enthusiasm into the ICU festival. Now, our manufacture part has only 1 boy in 11, so I want some boys to join our part. Let's join us!

Disneyland with section mates
On July 2nd, Miki, Misao, Toru and I went to Disneyland. In fact, we were going to go to Disneyland with 8 section mates but 4 of them could not go.
It was raining but we were so lucky that we did not get wet because when it rained, we were in indoor atractions. And also, it was a weekday so there were not so much people so we could take a lot of atractions. Almost atractions' waiting time was 10 minutes and the longest waiting time was only 30 minutes. Such a short waiting time was my first time so I was very surprised.
On waiting time, we talked a lot of things which we do not talk at school and they were very interesting to me. I could know a lot of new things about Miki, Misao and Toru.
At last, we took "Splash mountain". It is very popular atraction but then, the waiting time was only 5 minutes and actually, we could take without waitng. And also we took it only us. No other group people were on the same boat. So we decided the pose and at the last dropping spot, we posed and were taken a photo. Of course, I bought the photo.
This section Disneyland was really fun !! Next time, I want to go to Disneyland with more section mates.

My English
I went to Australia three years ago. That was study tour in foreign country of my high school, and I had been in Australia for two weeks.
When I was in Australia, I went to school in Australia and took classes with my Japanese school friends. We did not get used to speaking in English so we spoke in Japanese during classes even if the teacher told us to speak Japanese. Of course we were talking in English with people in Australia but when we talk with Japanese people, we spoke in Japanese.
One day, we did survival game which we did in ASP class. We discussed which is the most important thing to survive in desert, but in Japanese. However, when I did the same game in ASP class, I realized that we should have done the survival game in Australia in English. I thought "Why we did the game in Japanese? I should have done that in English because we went to Australia in order to improve my English skill."
After that, I noticed that we really hesitated to speak in English with Japanese people. We were very shy to speak in English. However, now, in ICU ELP class, it is natural to speak in English with Japanese people. So we did survival game in English.
The conclusion is....My English skill especially speaking skill was improved compared with when I was a high school student. I want to improve my English skill more and more next four years in ICU.

Sports Festival
Today, I would like to tell you about my high school's sports festival. There are two big event in my high school and they are School Festival and Sports Festival. Second grade students make committee of school festival and third grade students make committee of sports festival. Especially, sports festival is very special event for our high school students, so we prepare for sports festival from October in the second grade and we spend about one year for preparing for sports festival.
In my high school, there are some parts and they are Mass game, Cheerleading, Cheering party, Producting, Making costumes and so on. I was in Mass game part for three years and I love Mass game and when I was third grade student, I spent my all summer vacation for Mass game and I did not study at all although I was a student preparing for taking an examination.
Sports festival of my high school is my pride!! If I could go back, I want to go back to when I was a high school student. Some people make light of our sports festival but even though, I love my high school's sports festival. If you want to look our sports festival, please click and jump to this cite!!

Critical thinking
I think that critical thinking is one of the main skill in the ELP classes. We read Meiland's idea or attitudes toward study in the ELP reader in ARW.
In that book, Meiland said that we have to examine the "obvious" things because they are so obvious that we have not examined them and so, they are unjustified. I think the meaning of the words which Meiland said is about critical thinking.
In classes, if our attitudes toward study are passive and we do not have any question about the contents of the words of teachers or what they said, it improve our knowledge only a little. The attitudes are really the same as which are in high school. The way of study in high school is to memorize. In Japan, there are a lot of college students whose attitudes toward study are passive, like only listening to lectures and taking note about on the black board, so they think college are the extension of high school. However, in ICU there are ELP and we have to discuss and think about a theme. In order to discuss and think, we have to read the text book carefully. In that process, we will have some questions about contents of the text. So we would try to solve these questions, and it makes us more improved.
So, we need a critical thinking to improve our knowledge the way of thinking, and skill to study.

Dialects
My division is Language at ICU. Now, I take two foundation classes. One is "Approaches to the study of language" and another is "Introduction to the study of the Japanese language". At "Approaches to the study of language" class, we learned about dialect. I'm from Hiroshima so I have a lot of dialect like "~jakee" or "taigii" and so on. "~jakee" means "dakara" in the Japanese standard language and "so" in English. Also, "taigii" means "mendoukusai" in the Japanese standard language and "troublesome" in English.
Dialect is surveyed at 2400 areas in Japan using a riddle form from 1955 to 1965. It was very interested to me that the dialect is roughly divided into three. "Eastern dialect" , "Western dialect" and "Ryukyu dialect". They have some equivalent hiragana. Eastern "i" equal Western "o" equal Ryukyu's "u". For example, Eastern Japanese people say "iru" that means "be present" but Western people say "oru" and Ryukyu people say "uru".
Of course we have more and more small division of dialect. There are some similar words and there also are some very different words. For example, we say "arigatou" that means "thank you" in most area, but in the Izumo district that is in Shimane prefecture, they say "dandan".
However, by the advance of mass media, the standard language spread out to whole Japan, so some dialects have not been used. I think dialects show the characteristic of the area so I want the dialects exist. To make exsist dialects, we should talk with elederly people who know dialect well.
