Critical thinking

I think that critical thinking is one of the main skill in the ELP classes. We read Meiland's idea or attitudes toward study in the ELP reader in ARW.
In that book, Meiland said that we have to examine the "obvious" things because they are so obvious that we have not examined them and so, they are unjustified. I think the meaning of the words which Meiland said is about critical thinking.
In classes, if our attitudes toward study are passive and we do not have any question about the contents of the words of teachers or what they said, it improve our knowledge only a little. The attitudes are really the same as which are in high school. The way of study in high school is to memorize. In Japan, there are a lot of college students whose attitudes toward study are passive, like only listening to lectures and taking note about on the black board, so they think college are the extension of high school. However, in ICU there are ELP and we have to discuss and think about a theme. In order to discuss and think, we have to read the text book carefully. In that process, we will have some questions about contents of the text. So we would try to solve these questions, and it makes us more improved.
So, we need a critical thinking to improve our knowledge the way of thinking, and skill to study.

Hi, this is Nastuko.
I agree with you in the point that we should see things in critical way but sometimes I feel that I speaks too strongly, hurt someone's heart. How do you make a balance between academic critical thinking and friendly communication?
i want to listen to others ideas too.

I also think critical thinking is important. It is lucky to enter ICU so that we can learn about critical thinking. So, we have to take full advantage in ICU

Hi Tomo! THis is Kanako.
I read your journal, and it was very interesting. I agree with you that in college, critical thinking is very important. Although I understand it is important, it is hard to do so because we didn't study in that way at high school.
Let's impove our skills and enjoy our college life!!

Hi,Tomo!I`m Hiroko.
I began to think about critical thinking since I entered ICU.
It`s one of the basic skills for academic learning, but I wonder if most of students can carry the task out.
But I also think of the importance of friendly communication like Natsuko.
I think it depends on the situation.
